My First City Home

Athens Street, South Boston, MA

It was 7 am and my email alerted me as it always does for my daily property matches.  At this point, I had lived in Boston for a year and had seen over 100 homes.  At the time the city was rife with foreclosures, and short sales.  With the banking crisis, the banks deemed many of them non-warrantable by financing standards.  Learning about them and finding the right one became an art form.  I knew within minutes if something would get gobbled up quickly based on the current condition and future value of the property.  When this home came up, I was there in 10 minutes, and an offer was submitted an hour later!

This home wasn’t in horrible shape at all.  The owners had been living in it for years, and couldn’t keep up with the payments, so they abandoned it as a short sale.  The cabinets were in decent shape, so we had granite countertops installed along with stainless steel appliances.  A lot of the floors were in rough shape, so we installed white oak hardwood flooring throughout with a few coats of polyurethane.  The home got a fresh coat of paint throughout along with new door hardware and light fixtures.  The bathroom showers were both tiled.  What I love about this condo is the brownstone look and feel with exposed brick on both levels.  The master bedroom has two huge closets, and a California King size bed fits with ease.
